Election Notice to Enrolled Tribal Members
The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Election Committee extends notice to all Enrolled Tribal Members who will turn 18 years of age on or before Friday, March 26, 2021, that they are required to complete a Voter Registration Form in order to vote at the 2021 Regular Election on Friday, March 26, 2021 (the “Election Day”).
A Voter Registration Form will be made available online and sent out to all enrolled tribal members who will turn 18 years of age on or before Election Day. If you are already a registered voter, then you do not need to return the Voter Registration Form. However, if you have not previously registered to vote or if you need to update your mailing address, then you must return the Voter Registration Form to the Enrollment Department no later than Wednesday, February 24, 2021. Failure to timely return voter registration forms may result in you not receiving a ballot. Voter Registration Forms can be returned in the following manners:

Tribe Remembers Okemos Brown
The Mashpee Wampanoag flag flew at half-staff last month in remembrance of Okemos R. Brown, 4, of Mashpee, a member of the Tribe who passed away from injuries sustained in a car accident on January 21.
He was the son of Kendall Nichole Scott of Mashpee and the late Okemos (Nighthawk) Brown-Northup of Charlestown, Rhode Island.
Election Committee Schedules Election for March 26, 2021
The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Election Committee has rescheduled the 2021 Regular Election from March 14 to March 26, 2021. Due to the ongoing covid-19 pandemic, the Election Committee required additional time to formalize and implement alternative election and voting procedures necessary to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the Tribe and its members and to ensure a fair, accurate, and safe tribal election.

The Mashpee Wampanoag Police Department announced last month that three grants totaling more than $750,000 have been awarded to the department.
The Tribal Education Departments is pleased to announce the hiring of Darius Coombs, Mashpee Wampanoag, as the Cultural & Outreach Coordinator for Education. He comes to the tribe with 35 years of educating people on Wampanoag and other Indigenous cultures.
Do you know a teen who has a passion for preparedness? FEMA is accepting applications for its 2021 Youth Preparedness Council (YPC). Since 2012, FEMA has brought youth from across the Nation together to serve on the YPC. Each year, teens apply to the YPC for an opportunity to join FEMA in encouraging emergency preparedness. YPC members are selected for two-year terms.
There has been an increase of 23,797 positive cases in MA and an increase of 457 confirmed & probable deaths in MA and an increase of 464 positive cases in Barnstable County and an increase 3 positive cases at IHS over the past 7 days. On 1/28/2021 Mass. DPH reported 120 new cases for Barnstable County. Hospitalizations and Fatalities: 3-day avg.hospitalizations have fallen to the upper 40's/low 50's, yet relatively high patient counts in the ICUs (16 patients) remain. Fatalities remain elevated but are in-line with rates seen during Wave 1 last spring.
The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal Education Department received 100 applications for services, with 6 of those currently on a waiting list. A request for additional funds was sent to tribal council, dependent on availability.

Vice Chairwoman Baird was notified on January 15 that the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Office of Attorney General Maura Healey is awarding the Tribe a grant in the amount of $99,102.92 for the Tribe’s mission to provide culturally relevant opioid treatment to tribal citizens battling the disease..

The Education Department is working with the Indian Education program to offer tutoring in all subjects at Mashpee Middle and High School on B days from 1:30-3:00 in the Indian Ed Room.
The Mashpee Wampanoag Food Pantry, located at the Community and Government Center, is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from Noon to 4:00 p.m.
The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is available for the 2020/2021 winter season. LIHEAP is designed to help eligible low-income households supplement part of their winter heating service bills.
