Toward the end of January, Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Emergency Management Director, Nelson Andrews Jr was an invitational speaker for two separate National Tribal engagements.

The first National event was held by the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), a National organization that sponsor's the Tribal Radioactive Materials Transportation Committee (TRMTC). The Tribal Radioactive Materials Transportation Committee (TRMTC) consists of representatives from Tribal Nations throughout the United States that are potentially impacted by Department of Energy's (DOE) transportation or storage of radioactive materials and spent nuclear fuel. Director Andrews is a board member of the TRMTC and represents the groups TRMTC Emergency Management Subcommittee (TEMS). Nelson was able to provide guidance and knowledge of Tribal Emergency Management to the Federal Government Representatives, Tribal Organizations and State partners during the zoom presentation.

During the last week of January, Director Andrews also participated as an invitational speaker during The National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) three-part webinar series on tribal disaster preparedness efforts. During the webinar series, tribal emergency management experts walked tribal leaders and staff through the 2017 Tribal Declarations Pilot Guidance, the panel of tribal emergency management experts answered questions, and highlighted how tribal nations can access emergency disaster resources. Nelson provided an overview on the National Emergency Declaration that the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe is under for the COVID-19 Pandemic. He was able to walk the audience through the process that helped to lead the way for FEMA Region 1 Direct Recipient Tribes and the majority of all Tribes with the initial planning that was completed for the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe's FEMA Direct Recipient Process.
