Wôpanâak Immersion Camp Brings Language and Community Together

One of the strongest ways we carry Wôpanâak forward is by using it together. The Wôpanâak Language Reclamation Project is inviting Wampanoag families and community members to take part in the 2026 Wôpanâak Language Immersion Camp, October 10-12 at the Wampanoag Common Lands, 266 Bishops Highway in Kingston.

The weekend will give participants of all ages a chance to learn and use Wôpanâak through cultural activities in a supportive, community-centered immersion setting. The camp begins at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, and continues through 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 12.

No previous speaking experience is necessary, and participants do not have to camp overnight to take part. The program is open to enrolled citizens, and household members of enrolled citizens, of the Assonet, Aquinnah, Herring Pond, and Mashpee Wampanoag communities.

This is a chance to spend a weekend surrounded by language, culture, relatives, and community while helping strengthen Wôpanâak for the generations coming behind us.
