The Indian Child Welfare Department, in collaboration with the Mashpee Wampanoag Indian Health Services Unit, the Department of Public Health, and tribal departments presents “A 2019 Prevention, Awareness and Wellness Celebration.” The month-long celebration features a series of events that kick off on April 19 and run through May 16 with the shared theme of “Healthy Minds to Protect Our Children and Maintain Tribal Connections.”

On Wednesday, (April 3) the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, represented by Vice Chairwoman Jessie little doe Baird, provided testimony before the U.S. House Committee on Natural Resources, Subcommittee on Indigenous Peoples of the United States, to the urgent need for passage of HR312 “Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Reservation Reaffirmation Act.”

“The damage done to our Tribe during the years in which the status of our reservation has been thrown into doubt is beginning to reach catastrophic levels.

Brian M. Weeden, a member of the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe, is pushing for the town to redesign its seal.

Or, more accurately, he wants the town to create its first truly original seal—one that better reflects the heritage and culture of Mashpee, Massachusetts.

We have learned of exciting news regarding our legislation "Mashpee Reservation Reaffirmation Act"/HR312 and I want to share this brief but uplifting update.

Chairman Grijalva is moving our bill quickly through the House Committee of Natural Resources as it should be taken up next week!

After further discussion and deliberation, the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal Council moved to rescind its recent vote of “no-confidence” in Chairman Cedric Cromwell. The council also voted to reinstate Chairman Cromwell’s fiduciary responsibilities.

The council voted unanimously 7-0 at its Wednesday, Feb. 6 meeting to rescind its previous “no-confidence” vote and also voted 7-0 to reinstate Chairman Cromwell’s financial duties as Tribal Council Chairman and President of the Tribe’s Gaming Authority.

This leak of confidential financial information is clearly an attack on our Tribe, designed to raise suspicion with non-Tribal partners and allies and sow discord within the Tribal Citizenry. It’s difficult enough to fight for our land and combat the assaults on our sovereign rights without having to deal with leaks intended to undermine the hard work and credibility of dedicated, committed tribal servants.
