Positive Covid case increases through the dates of 1/29/21 - 2/26/21
16 positive Covid cases tested at the Mashpee Health Service Unit (IHS)
2,101 positive Covid cases tested in Barnstable County
55,716 positive Covid cases tested in Massachusetts
The daily new case numbers in Barnstable County has risen slightly during the last week of February, following a major decline since the holiday season surge. The 7-day average new cases per 100,000 (now 17/100K) has risen slightly, with Barnstable County acquiring an average of 35 cases per day over the past 7 days.
With positive Covid-19 case numbers now on the decline, it is still very important to continue in practicing the standard public measures that have been in place in order to continue in keeping our Tribal Community safe from this highly contagious virus. When around those outside of your immediate household, please continue to wear a mask, stay 6 ft apart through physical distancing, practice good hand hygiene, avoid crowds, get tested for Covid-19 and schedule an appointment for a vaccination at IHS.
The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Emergency Management Department (MWT EMD) is in collaboration efforts with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Contact Tracing Collaborative and the Mashpee Dept. of Public Health. This is in an effort to help determine MWT members who may have tested positive for Covid within state at outside testing sites. The MWT EMD has also contracted a Public Health Advisor, who is helping to lead these efforts in addition to assisting with planning for Community and Government Center, the WLRP School and Tribal Court re-entry phases.
Our Tribal Community now has vaccinations available for all Tribal Members over 18 years of age, we have an opportunity unlike any other at this time to ensure that our community is in a safer place and moving forward together toward the new phase of normalcy. As we approach a long 12 months of the pandemic, we must continue to hold on and not settle into the “Covid fatigue”. With new hope on the horizon, we must stay strong and vigilant for the most vulnerable members of our community, we will all get through this pandemic, safely together just our ancestors before us have.
