Remembering Marjorie Seagraves

Marjorie Dorcas Seagraves, 74, was born on April 18, 1947 in Boston Massachusetts to the late Bertha and Frederick Shaw Hines Sr.  Marjorie left this earthly plane on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Norton Women and Children's Hospital in Louisville, KY.

Marjorie graduated from Central High School in 1965, where she excelled in her studies, especially history and mathematics. Those who knew Marjorie, knew she was a trailblazer and worked tirelessly to integrate the cheerleading squad at Central High School. Upon graduation, Marjorie was accepted into the University of Louisville's Speed School. She continued her love of finance by taking accounting classes at Bellarmine University.

Marjorie led the Finance & Accounting departments for several large corporations, such as Chi Chi's, KFC and Humana. She worked as the Head of Finance for Ogden Associates, before moving to Mashpee, MA to become the Head of Accounting for the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of which she and her family are members. Upon retirement, she continued to serve on the Elder Judiciary Board for the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe as their continued success and achievements remained of the utmost importance to her.

Marjorie's love for her tribal family is indicative of the name given to her, Wutahshunôh, "She Lifts Them Up." She was extremely proud of her name and what it represented.  Living a life where she continuously tried to uplift those around her. Marjorie shared the wisdom and knowledge of her ancestors. She displayed love, hope and compassion for all and will forever lift up her three girls.

Marjorie is survived by 3 daughters she shared with her high school sweetheart Archie Faulkner; Janet Gilkey (Tampa, FL), Lisa Faulkner, and Alice Miah (Jarrett) of Louisville, KY; 8 grandchildren; Shilah, Dominque & Angelique Faulkner, Raven, Delaney & Jalen Bartlett, Nyah Miah and Cole Gilkey; 5 great-grandchildren; John Carver, Kaiveon & Day Faulkner, Kayson Cornish and London Bowers; her brother Frederick Shaw Hines Jr. (Chesterfield, VA); a nephew Coleman Brown (Bowie, MD), two nieces Heidi DeBarros (Mashpee, MA) and Janell Payne (Atlanta, GA); and a host of loving relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bertha Elizabeth and Frederick Shaw Hines Sr.; 2 beloved sisters; Brenda Richerson and Janet Johnson; and long-time partner, William Lewis.

 Marjorie chose to be cremated. At her request no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, Marjorie was a staunch supporter of St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
