Covid Rising in Community

The percent positivity for Barnstable County increased to 3.92 from 3.67 in the last week and from 2.97 at the beginning of November 2021. Community transmission is high, even among those who are fully vaccinated.  Therefore, it is important for all of us to continue our due diligence of protecting our community.

Vaccinations (for children 5–11 years of age, for youth 12–17, for adults ≥18) are available, and boosters are available for ≥18 years of age.

We all must continue to mask up in public, indoor settings, physically distance ourselves, and wash our hands frequently. We continue to clean and disinfect high-touch areas and surfaces, with the availability of the COVID-19 vaccines and these mitigation strategies adhered to, we are hopeful that the percent positivity rate will not surge within our tribal community.  These strategies will also help to ensure that we all get through the holidays safely as well.

The MWT Community and Government Center remains in Phase 3C. If the cases do surge, then the MWT Emergency Management Department will likely implement a phase back, limiting staff and gatherings at the building.  All MWT personnel must receive weekly PCR COVID tests at IHS, wear masks at all times, physically distance, and be thermal scanned before completing a daily COVID screening form.

Mass DPH recommends that all persons, vaccinated or not, experiencing COVID symptoms or having had close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID be tested themselves. Guidance on testing, isolation, and quarantine can be found here:  https://www.mass.gov/info-details/about-covid-19-testinghttps://www.mass.gov/info-details/covid-19-isolation-and-quarantine-information

The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Emergency Management Department has been working continuously with the Mass DPH, CDC, FEMA, and the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Health Service Unit (IHS) on COVID response efforts.

IHS is still offering vaccinations and COVID testing weekly. If you are not yet vaccinated, please call IHS at (508) 539-2561 to schedule your appointment. We will get through this Pandemic; let's work together to protect our elders, tribal community and vulnerable population so that we can ALL get through safely together.
