In June 2020 the UK’s largest regional producing theatre, Theatre Royal Plymouth, will create a major new work of community theatre. Community Theatre is for anyone and everyone, people with and without experience.
Working with the community in the development, the piece will explore and acknowledge the strength and power of the Wampanoag nation.
Theatre Royal Plymouth, UK are looking for Wampanoag and other people from the Tribal Nations of Southern New England, who are interested in the historical events regarding the impact of the landing of the Mayflower in Wampanoag Territory, and to ensure their appropriate representation, as well as aspiring singers, dancers, musicians and actors from these communities. No experience is necessary and involvement will include an all-expenses paid trip to the UK in summer 2020 (June).
A series of workshops for the production will be held on October 5 to October 8 at the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Community and Government Center.
This will be a major international community event – a true linking of hands across the Atlantic. The involvement of the native people in all aspects of the piece provides a unique opportunity to tell this story with integrity and truth.
In May 2019 we met with people from the community interested in the project across a number of sessions held in Mashpee, MA.
In October 2019 we return to Massachusetts, hosting various practical sessions for and with the native community to develop scenes for the show. These sessions will explore subjects that were raised by people during our last visit.
You don’t have to prepare anything or have any specific skills to attend the sessions. However, if there is material, stories or anything that people want to bring then they will be warmly received.
If there are any additional subjects or issues that people want to raise and explore, please let us know and we’ll arrange a session that incorporates this.
You are welcome attend all, some or just one session.
Food & drink will be provided. For further information and to receive regular updates about the project please contact
