Tribe and DOI Defend our Land - Hear the Oral Arguments

Wunee Keesuq Tribal Community,

Yesterday, oral arguments occurred in the Littlefield case at the First Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston. During this hearing, our Tribe and the U.S. Department of the Interior defended our land against the continued assault led by the Littlefields.

We believe that truth, law and justice will win out, and that our reservation will be preserved. The Department of interior’s decision confirming our Tribe’s reservation lands was already affirmed in February of this year by the Honorable District Court Judge Angel Kelley. it's our hope that the First Circuit will do the same so that generations of Wampanoag that follow us will forever have a homeland.

I want to thank all the community members who could attend in support of the Tribe. For those who were unable to attend in person, the oral arguments were audio recorded and can now be accessed online at https://www.ca1.uscourts.gov/sites/ca1/files/oralargs/23-1197_20231004.mp3

While we don't know how long the judges will take to decide the case, please rest assured that I will share that ruling as soon as it is released.

Ahâpây,

Chairman Weeden
