Tribal Council Member and Tribal Historic Preservation Officer David W. Weeden is seeking re-election to the Mashpee Select Board

David, who currently serves as Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal Council Member, Mashpee Wampanoag Historic Preservation Officer and vice chairman of the Town of MashpeeSelect Board, has been involved in Mashpee town government since 2016, when he first served on the Planning Board. He has served on the Select Board since 2019 and is now seeking another term.

“What kind of world are we leaving for our future generations?” Weeden said, sharing that the question helps guide the decisions he makes on behalf of the town.

David said his work in town government connects closely with his role as the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe’s Historic Preservation Officer. In that position, he consults with federal and state agencies, as well as project proponents, on matters that may impact sacred sites, archaeological sites, environmental resources, and natural resources of importance to the Tribe.

As he seeks re-election, Weeden said many of his priorities remain the same, including protecting Mashpee’s waters, preserving community character, supporting affordable housing, caring for the environment, and ensuring Tribal representation.

“Affordable housing is still a constant threat and issue to both the Tribe and citizens of Mashpee, as well as the region,” Weeden said. “Affordability of homes is not an issue that pertains to any one group. It’s something of concern to everyone.”

Weeden also spoke about the importance of protecting what is historic and meaningful to both the Tribe and the Town of Mashpee, while considering the long-term future of the community.
