Tribal youth in grades 5-8 are invited to come learn with Darius Coombs (cultural educator and tribal member) how to make a muhsh8n from a 12 foot pine log the way our ancestors did using fire as the main tool.

When the boat is finished, picture us paddling our muhsh8n on Mashpee Pond.

We will celebrate with friends and families with a clambake that we will prepare under the guidance of the Culture Keepers.

The Youth Muhsh8n program will be gathering at the arbor on the powwow field. For more information on how to register or have questions contact Kitty Hendricks-Miller 509-477-0208 ext 143 gertrude.hendricks@mwtribe-nsn.gov

Funded by the First Nations Youth Culture Fund

About the Fund: The “We are the seventh generation” project will offer Mashpee Wampanoag youth ages 10-14, opportunity to understand the impact of environment on our lives, through introduction to ceremony and traditional activities; and, bridge the gap between youth and culture-keepers, elders who practice ceremony, know the stories, and understand traditions. Youth will invest themselves in seasonal cultural activities, with the goal of supporting self-awareness, pride, and responsibility.
