Last month, Mass Humanities gathered at the New Bedford Whaling Museum to celebrate storytelling and present the very first Massachusetts Storyteller Award to the Tribe, recognizing the Tribe’s legacies of storytelling and land stewardship. The award honors an outstanding individual or group that is using the humanities and the power of the narrative to tackle the commonwealth’s most pressing challenges.

The evening was filled with music and art, with performances from Mwalim Peters ( Mwalim Daphunkee Professor ) and Annawon Weeden. Councilman David Weeden then went on to accept the award on behalf of the Tribe. Thank you to Mass Humanities for hosting and presenting this special honor to our community.
