Remembering Buzzy Turner

Seaman Piper "Buzzy" Turner II, 79, of Mashpee, MA passed away peacefully at McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich on December 26, 2021. He was the beloved son of the late Harriet (Brown) and Seaman P. Turner.

Buzzy spent his early years growing up living in the Parsonage house in Mashpee with his siblings. He attended Mashpee and Falmouth Public Schools and enjoyed many lasting friendships with his fellow Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal members. Buzzy was inquisitive from a very young age and could always be seen alongside his elders watching and learning, developing his Mashpee ingenuity. He was proud of who he was and where he came from and never lost touch with his Mashpee roots. A proud Tribal elder, Buzzy was known for sharing stories of Wampanoag life and history.

After graduating Lawrence High School in Falmouth, Buzzy enlisted in the United States Army during the early 1960s and served overseas in France. He impressed his Superiors with his talent at fixing vehicles and was quickly made a Foreman. He was very proud of his military service and was often seen in clothing and hats displaying his pride. Buzzy continued his service as a volunteer fireman for the town of Mashpee. Buzzy began his career as a mobile mechanic for Baxter Transport, spending the next 30 years fixing foreign vehicles at Trans-Atlantic in Hyannis, MA. As a local small businessman, he owned and operated Buzzy's Auto Repair for many years, and then All-American Garage Door Co. in Mashpee until his retirement. Buzzy was a jack of all trades repairing machines and cars. He loved taking things apart, tinkering, and rebuilding, and could often be heard telling tales of his "McGyver" skills

Buzzy loved spending time with his family. Survived by 3 children, Stewart Turner of Hyannis, MA, Jason Turner and his wife Jennifer of Warwick, RI, Naomi Turner of New Britain, CT, his sister Patricia (Turner) and her husband Everett "Tall Oak" Weeden, his brother Ronald Turner; grandchildren Shauntea, Joshua, Courtney, Andre, Ajaye, Nariah, Brianna, and Toren; great-grandchildren Anthony, Meequanees, Jocelyn, Brielle and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Seaman P. Turner III. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother and will be missed by all who knew him.

A ceremony was held at the Old Indian Meetinghouse on Friday December 31, 2021.
