Haskell Indian Nations University sophomore forward Nakia Hendricks (Mashpee Wampanoag) has been named the A.i.i men’s basketball player of the week.
Opening the new year by averaging 16 points and 11.3 rebounds across three games, Haskell Indian Nations University sophomore forward Nakia Hendricks, citizen of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe) has been named the Association of Independent Institutions (A.i.i) men's basketball player of the week.
The Mashpee, Mass., native turned in three double-figure scoring performances and averaged double figures in rebounds – to average a significant double-double.
Hendricks opened 2018 by scoring 17 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in a 102-94 overtime victory against Crowley's Ridge College in the opening game of the College of Ozarks Classic. He followed by collecting 15 points and nine rebounds in an 80-75 win against Grace Bible College in the two-day event.
Finally, Hendricks had 16 points and 12 rebounds in a home loss against Doane University (Neb.).
For the three games, the 6-foot-7 forward made 20 of 34 field goal attempts and all seven free throw attempts.
