Rita Gonsalves, CEO of the Mashpee Wampanoag Health Service Unit, was awarded the 2020 Director’s Award from Indian Health Services (IHS) in November, during a national event that was held virtually due to the ongoing pandemic.
Rita received the award for her work to significantly advance the IHS mission and vision. In her position, Rita has ensured that comprehensive, culturally appropriate personal and health services were available to the community year after year. In addition, Rita was selected for the Director’s Award because of her innovation of health systems that have improved organizational performance. Through her efforts, access to quality health care has increased for Native Americans in the community.
