IHS Hires New Physician - Welcoming Dr. Jennifer Aucoin

Please join us in welcoming our newest team member Dr. Jennifer Aucoin, to the Mashpee Service Unit! Dr. Jennifer Aucoin will serve as the service unit’s Intermittent Physician. We are so excited to have to her as a part of our team and very eager to fill up her schedule! 😊

I grew up in Waltham, MA and I am still a big fan of the local sports teams. I attended Boston College and UMass Medical School.  I chose Family Medicine as a specialty because I like working as primary care provider for people of all ages. Women’s health has always been a particular interest of mine.  I have had some jobs that focused more on prenatal and pediatric care and others that involved nursing home care. I was introduced to Indian Health Service near the end of medical school when I did a one-month elective rotation at Sells Indian Health Center in Sells, AZ. I loved it because it also involved care of people of all ages. I did my Family Medicine Residency training at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta, ME.  Both my Residency Director and Associate Residency Director happened to start their careers working for IHS, and as part of our training we did a Pediatric Hospital rotation at Gallup Indian Medical Center in Gallup, NM. After residency I worked for IHS in Arizona for ten years, first for the San Carlos Apache Tribe in San Carlos, AZ, and then for the Tohono O’odham Nation in Sells, AZ.  I then moved back East to be closer to my family. I have worked in a variety of settings over the last ten years, primarily as a traveling doctor, both in northern Maine and on the Navajo Nation. I am thrilled to be working permanently for IHS again, especially in my home state! I look forward to getting to know the people of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe.
