Tribe Receives $14,000 Grant from the Ernest Michael Helides and Evelyn Ponticos Helides Education Fund of The Cape Cod Foundation to Strengthen Life Skills Support Services for Native youth

Mashpee, MA — The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe is pleased to announce that it has received a $14,000 grant from the Ernest Michael Helides and Evelyn Ponticos Helides Education Fund of the Cape Cod Foundation in support of the Education Department’s Life Skills programming, an essential initiative designed to equip tribal youth and young adults with the practical tools needed for academic success, workforce readiness, and everyday living.

The Life Skills program provides culturally grounded instruction and support in areas including driver’s education, dual enrollment, tutoring, wellness, and sound decision-making. The Cape Cod Foundation’s investment will allow the Education Department to expand access, enhance hands-on learning opportunities, and strengthen individualized support for participants. We thank John Hanlon, Assistant Education Director for working on the grant application to provide these necessary supports.

“This generous support from the Ernest Michael Helides and Evelyn Ponticos Helides Education Fund of The Cape Cod Foundation helps us continue investing in the next generation of Mashpee Wampanoag leaders,” said Roxanne Mills Brown, Education Director. “These life skills are foundational for our students and young adults as they navigate school, employment, and community responsibilities.”

The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe extends its sincere appreciation to the Cape Cod Foundation for its ongoing commitment to uplifting local communities and strengthening pathways to long-term success for Native learners.
