The 103rd annual Mashpee Wampanoag Powwow will be held Friday, July 5th through Sunday, July 7th. The annual homecoming showcases Wampanoag culture, community, and tradition. Ethics Ordinance Vote Scheduled for June 9th
The Tribal Council will hold an “Ethics Ordinance Vote” on Sunday, June 9, 2024 from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM at the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Community and Government Center located at 483 Great Neck Road South in Mashpee.
Directions and Deadline for Public Comment on or Before June 3rd
The public may submit written comments on the Proposed Ordinance by delivery or mail to the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal Secretary, Cassie Jackson, 483 Great Neck Rd South, Mashpee, MA 02649, or e-mailed to Cassie.Jackson@mwtribe-nsn.gov or victoria@callahanbarraco.com. Written comments should be submitted on or before Monday, June 3, 2024.

I wanted to inform you all about changes that have been made regarding our Tribal Council. Councilwoman Gonsalves submitted her resignation from Tribal Council effective May 7th, 2024. I want to personally thank Councilwoman Gonsalves for her dedication and commitment to serving our people. Over the years she has worked countless hours to help implement TERO law, establish the ethics working group, and serve as the Chief Executive Officer of I.H.S. Kutâputush Rita for all that you have done, we wish you well in your future endeavors.
Given this vacancy, the Tribal Council acknowledged the requirement to fill the vacancy for the Tribal Council seat pursuant to Article VIII Section(4)(a)(1) of the Constitution. Tribal Council appointed the candidate that received the second highest number of votes next to the person who vacated the office. Edwina "Winnie" Johnson Graham received 185 votes in the 2023 General Election, and has been appointed to serve as a council member on the Tribal Council. Thank you Councilwoman Graham for your continued service to this community.

Mashpee Wampanoag Pow Wow committee will be accepting bid proposals for trash and parking for this years powwow. Bids must be received by no later than 06/07/2024 at 4:00 PM.
The FBI was contacted when a cyber-attack shut down tribal communications and compromised data crippling all departments and services to the tribe on Friday, April 19 at 7:30 am. The attack targeted the Finance Department but ultimately hit all internet servers.
Hoping this message finds you all well and that everyone is having a safe and enjoyable weekend. After much reflection, I have decided to step down from my position as the Director of Emergency Management for the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe.

Calling all Future Tribal Environmental Scientists!
Native youth entering grades 5-8, who are interested in learning about the environment that sustains us all, and the traditional scientific knowledge that is within us all, are invited to attend Preserving Our Homelands Camp 2024!
The annual Rumble on the Rez event will take place on Saturday, August 3rd from 12:00 PM - 5:00PM on Powwow Grounds. Rumble on the Rez aims to raise awareness about the battle against substance abuse and provide resources to support those in need.
The Mashpee community celebrated the opening of a traditional exhibit in the Quashnet School courtyard called “13 Moons” in May. The exhibit featuring a wetu, a garden, and educational panels was the culmination of two years of work by students at the school and staff of the tribe’s education department under the direction of Cultural and Outreach Coordinator Darius Coombs.
The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe currently has an open seat on its Enrollment Committee. One of the most important responsibilities of the Enrollment Committee is to review enrollment applications. A career and resource fair will be held at the Community and Government Center on Monday, June 10th from 4:00 PM - 7:30 PM. There is also an option to attend virtually. The fair will focus on connecting attendees with opportunities in STEM, renewable energy, and utility professions.
The tribe has teamed up with the Community Action Committee of Cape Cod and Islands to do a Health Insurance Enrollment at the Community and Government Center once a month. There will be trained navigators to assist tribal members in one-on-one meetings with applying, shopping and enrolling in a health insurance program.
On Saturday, May 11th Chairman Weeden was reelected to serve on the Mashpee School Committee. He has served on the committee since 2021 and received 1,444 votes securing his spot for another term. Congratulations Chairman!
Official registration for the Sunday, August 18 race has closed however a limited number of entries are available to Mashpee Wampanoag tribal members. Runners will be responsible for paying a $117 registration fee or seeking sponsorship. Anyone interested in running on the Wampanoag Road Runner roster must register no later than June 10.

The Common Counsel Foundation and Native Americans in Philanthropy have opened the Native Voices Rising 2024 grant cycle. Since its inception, Native Voices Rising has disbursed over $12.5 million in grants to more than 235 Native-led grassroots organizations.
List of Committee and Board Seat Openings
The Weetumuw School Committee is tasked with aiding the school's administration and periodically reviewing the schools educational, financial, and cultural goals and policies. The committee will be comprised of seven members, with each member serving a two-year term.
The Youth Advisory Committee is looking for interested Tribal Members to join the Youth Advisory Committee. The committee’s main purpose is to consult with, and provide input to Tribal entities and Tribal individuals who desire such consultation in order to assist them with achieving maximum coordinated benefits for Mashpee tribal youth. The Old Indian Cemetery Commission will be responsible for creating the cemetery policies, procedures, rules, and regulations to help preserve and maintain the Old Indian Cemetery. The committee will be made up of nine members comprised of the following:

The tribe is looking to get the Education Committee back up and running. There are currently five open seats on the committee. The committee will focus on scholarship opportunities and educational programming for tribal youth. The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Community Development Corporation (CDC) is currently seeking qualified tribal citizens to join the CDC Board of Directors. The CDC was organized to engage in activities that will promote the social welfare, economic security and community development of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe and its enrolled citizens that will enable the Tribe to be self-sufficient and to provide economic support for its tribal citizens.
