On Saturday, November 23rd, Patricia “Trish” “Little Pine Needle” Keliinui was raised as the new Clan Mother of the Turtle Clan during a community gathering organized by members of the Peters family.
Trish is the daughter of Clara Louise (Peters) “Dancing Pony” and Patrick Keliinui. She is the granddaughter of Clara (Miles) and Steven Amos Peters, Sr., and Mary Ellen Kameekua Keliinui-Young and Gregory Patrick Keliinui.
The morning began with drumming and dancing before entering into remarks from members of the clan. Time was given to honor and remember the late Amelia Peters Bingham, who was a strong matriarch of the Peters family and formerly held the position of Turtle Clan Mother until her passing in 2021.
The family continued by sharing stories and songs and presenting Trish with various gifts. Some of these included a leather blanket handmade by Anita “Mother Bear” Peters and a brass headpiece made by Russell Peters. As Trish gave her closing remarks, she noted that she is honored to represent the Turtle Clan and Peters family in this way and that while she still has a lot to learn, she will continue to be there for those in need and support the clan every way she can.
Congratulations Trish!
