The Historical Commission is putting on a display of more than 500 photos of people from throughout Mashpee history from the 1800 to present day. The vast majority are Wampanoag. This is part of their 3rd Annual Indigenous Peoples' Day Open House. The event will take place on October 9th from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM pm at the Mashpee Archive Building, 13 Great Neck Road North, opposite Town Hall.
From Wampanoag families that go back for generations to those who are new arrivals; all make Mashpee home; From town officials over the years to police and fire personnel; from member of the 1948 championship Cape Cod Baseball League team to member of the Mashpee High School football Super Bowl teams. From the Wampanoag Pow Wows to fishermen in Mashpee Pond; from Mashpee school kids to veterans serving our country. Stop in any time between 11:00- 2:00. All are welcome, light refreshments will be served. A special “find the people” scavenger hunt will be available for the kids. The Historic One-Room Schoolhouse will also be open for the final time before closing for the winter.
