For more than a century, the Lumbee people have pursued recognition of their inherent sovereignty, identity, and right to self-governance.
Chairman Weeden to Speak at Senate Committee on Indian Affairs: Watch Live at 2:30 PM
Chairman of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, Brian Weeden, will speak today at a Senate Committee on Indian Affairs legislative hearing starting at 2:30 PM Eastern. The hearing will receive testimony on several bills, including S. 236, which would amend the Long-Term Leasing Act to authorize leases of up to 99 years on the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Reservation and the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah) Reservation — an important issue for Tribal sovereignty and future development.

After careful review of our current staffing and program responsibilities, the Tribal Education Department will not be offering school-vacation camps or summer camps at this time. This decision was not made lightly.
At present, the Department does not have the capacity to recruit, appropriately train, and develop the staff required to operate safe, high-quality, culturally grounded camp programming.
