The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe informed Taunton City officials this afternoon that it is working with Genting to advance the options on its lands and continue its pilot payments. The Tribe remains committed to being a good steward of its land and moving forward to bringing economic development and new jobs to Taunton and Southeastern Massachusetts.
The Tribe also provided a brief update on the ongoing land litigation and is confident in its position as a sovereign nation, its record of decision and its ability to fully exercise its sovereign rights on the tribal lands in Mashpee and Taunton. A motion for summary judgment submitted by the Littlefields on Monday, August 1 kicks off a briefing scheduled that should allow the case to finally draw towards a conclusion.
The Tribe and the Gaming Authority have committed themselves to share the news with you as it happens.
