Mashpee River Restoration – We Want to Hear From You
The Route 130 culvert and the Mill Pond dam on the Mashpee River are being removed to improve fish passage and restore the river's health. As part of this work, there are important choices ahead — including whether the Mill Pond is removed entirely or reimagined as a smaller water feature.
These decisions matter, and tribal voices are essential.
We invite Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal members to:
Share your stories, memories, and experiences connected to the Mill Pond and this stretch of the river
Provide input on the design of new herring harvest access areas
Help guide the reintroduction of culturally significant plants and removal of invasive species along the river corridor
This project is about restoring the river and honoring its cultural importance. Your knowledge and lived experience will help shape what comes next.
