Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Hosts 98th Annual Powwow July 5, 6 & 7 2019

Gates open at 10 a.m. daily; Grand Entry procession at 1 p.m. daily

  • Head Dancers: Will be chosen daily

What: The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe hosts their 98th Annual Powwow, an event that celebrates the heritage and culture of the “People of the First Light” and features three days of solemn, spiritual and festive activities. Highlights include Traditional Dance, Traditional Drumming, the exciting Warwick Gombey Dancers from Bermuda, foods prepared by all Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal vendors, as well as craft stands operated by Native Peoples from across the country.

Visitors will have a chance to participate in Inter-Tribal dances and Eastern Social musical performances.

Dance competitors in all categories will be eligible for cash prizes.
A Mashpee-style Clam Bake, will take place on Sunday. Tickets can be purchased through the weekend.

The crowning of the “Mashpee Wampanoag Powwow Princess 2019-2020” as well as “Little Miss Wampanoag” will take place on Sunday, following the reigning 2018-2019 Princesses’ farewell speeches.

The 2019 Powwow Committee includes Chair, Cassie Jackson, Vice Chair, Delscena Hicks, Secretary, Carla Riley, and Committee members Eleanor Coombs, LaVerne Floyd and Winona Hendricks. The Committee also includes tribal council co-liaisons Brian Weeden and Edwina Graham.
