Award Nominations Now Open for the 2026 Mashpee Wampanoag Ball

Nominations are now being accepted for several community awards that will be presented at the Mashpee Wampanoag Ball. Nominations must be submitted by Tribal members (not anonymously) and should include a brief, typed write-up (up to one page) explaining why the nominee deserves the award.

Award Overviews (What Each One Recognizes)

  • Lewis Gurwitz Spirit Award – Recognizes a non-Tribal member (including members of other Tribes) who has shown unselfish devotion and friendship to the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, in memory of Lew Gurwitz and his lifelong work defending Native people.

  • Wampanoag Business and Professional Leadership Award – Honors a Tribal member who demonstrates strong work ethic, professionalism, performance excellence, and leadership, while balancing career success with retaining culture and traditions—serving as a positive example for youth.

  • Alice May Lopez Award for Advocacy and Volunteerism – Recognizes a Tribal member who advocates and/or volunteers on behalf of fellow Tribal members and/or the Tribal community at large, honoring the spirit of service and care that Alice embodied.

  • Osamequen Award – Given to a Tribal member dedicated to preserving the Tribe, culture, and history of the people, in memory of the 17th-century Wampanoag Massasoit, Osamequen.
