The Education Department's April vacation camp brought 37 youth to the Cape Cod National Seashore on April 21st. They toured the visitor center, hiked to Coast Guard Beach, and climbed Doane Rock after a picnic. The youth had the opportunity to pay their respects to and listened to park historian Bill Burke speak about the remains of a Wampanoag ancestor exposed in the eroded bluff at the beach earlier in the winter. Kitty Hendricks and Toodie Jackson spoke and did smudging to honor the ancestor and educate youth about Wampanoag history and customs.
Lexie Lowe, Community Volunteer Ambassador with the Northeast Archeological Resources Program, will be attending the Education Department's Adult Education and Career Night at the Community and Government Center on June 7th from 5-7PM to talk with tribal members about volunteering for a new program with opportunities to do archeology in the Cape Cod National Seashore.
