Since the Covid-19 outbreak over 60 days ago, the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Food Pantry has worked hard to meet the essential needs of the community by expanding the services provided. The food pantry was established as Point of Distribution Site (POD) for essential supplies during the Covid-19 pandemic. Now, with many hygiene and social distance measures in place the food pantry is able to remain open Monday through Friday from noon – 4:00 pm with food pantry pickups on the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm.
With support and coordination from the Tribe’s Emergency Management Department and coordination through FEMA, Red Cross the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief and the From Farmers to Families Food Box Program the tribe is able to provide fresh meat and produce to tribal members in addition to personal protective equipment (PPE) and hygiene products. Additional partnerships are in process as well with the United Way, Team Rubicon and Massachusetts Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters.
Food options vary daily. Last month the food pantry was able to distribute 225 scup and 15 black sea bass that were seized by the Massachusetts Environmental Police. In addition, tribal members being temporarily housed in local hotels have been able to receive food delivery through a partnership with the Red Cross for deliveries and the Salvation Army for food boxes. Please stay in contact with the food pantry to ensure you have the essential services your family needs.
