The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Emergency Management Department (MWT EMD) has limited internships available for interested high school students toward the end of the month of August.
Interns will gain valuable professional experience by working alongside the Emergency Management Department. The four pillars of emergency management: Operations, Planning, Logistics, Finance & Admin will be focused on. Basic Incident Command Systems Trainings and Red Cross, First-Aid, CPR, AED certificate trainings will be provided as well.
Interns will have a unique opportunity to apply learned trainings to real-life work situations. This hands-on program is designed to strengthen fundamental emergency management concepts and develop the confidence and skills of the next generation as they learn valuable insight into potential future employment in the field of emergency management.
Interns may assist with internal functions and Emergency Operations Center daily operations such as inventory management, and other projects as needed such as storm cleanup at tribal elder’s residences. The interns will also gain experience with search and rescue boat operation as well as search and rescue drone operation. Potential site visits to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, Federal Emergency Management Agency and National Weather Service as well.
To apply, applicants must be in high school and have an interest in a potential career in emergency management following graduation. A drivers permit/license is recommended but not required. Daily transportation to and from office site is required.
The internship program will take place during the last two weeks of August 7/16/21 to 7/27/21 and will be provided on intermittent days, a full schedule will be provided to the interns. Potential stipends available as well. Please provide a letter of interest by August, 11th 2021.
As this is the first internship program within the department with limited staffing, only 4 internships will be provided.
