The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Emergency Management Department is currently seeking enthusiastic and pro-active tribal members 18 and over. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the program was paused. We are now accepting applications until September, 17th 2021. There will be 5 AmeriCorps positions available. We will not be able to accept applications beyond this date.

MWT AmeriCorps Mission Statement

AmeriCorps members will assist in the mitigation of local hazards through trainings towards preparedness in the event of a natural or man-made disaster. The AmeriCorps members will serve within the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal Community which resides in the 5 counties of Barnstable, Plymouth, Bristol, Norfolk, and Suffolk.

Weekly living stipend, Education Award of $6,095, and Free Trainings. AmeriCorps members will be responsible for disaster response experience and implementation, Knowledge gained in the field of emergency preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation, Life skills gained, Worthy skillsets and trainings in the field of emergency management and preparedness to utilize in potential career opportunities following program and a Strong cultural knowledge gained of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe.

Activities include

Chainsaw safety training, cutting and delivering wood to elders and the vulnerable, snow removal of Elders and vulnerable, Volunteering within the Departments in our Tribal Government Operations, Wildfire mitigation at Tribal properties, Hurricane preparedness at Elders and Vulnerable Member Homes, Various Local Projects around the community, Community Cleanup Projects, Trail and River Cleanups.

First Aid, CPR & AED Training, Wild Firefighter Training, Basic life skills training, Wilderness Survival training, chainsaw safety training, emergency response boat training, drone training.
