While you may not physically enter the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Community and Government Center, the important work of the Tribal Government is able to continue. More importantly, essential services including Indian Health Services, the Food Pantry and Elder Lunch services have been able to continue with no interruption.
If you need to reach a tribal department for assistance with anything from housing to enrollment, you may call or email as you normally would. All phones within the departments have been rerouted to cell phones.
“Keeping our community and staff safe is our first priority,” said Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Chairman Cedric Cromwell. “We accomplished the safety measures early on with the closure of the Community and Government Center. Our next step was to utilize tech services to keep these departments connected to the community members they serve.”
Other essential services have continued, but also took new measures to stem the spread of the Coronavirus.
The Food Pantry is open regular hours but has taken additional measures to keep the surfaces sanitized and provide adequate space between shoppers. Indian Health Services asks all patients to call 508-539-2561 prior to coming in for an appointment or as a walk-in patient. In additional, the Elder Services Lunch and Learn program on Tuesday and Thursday now provides curbside pickup and food delivery services rather than the traditional group lunch setting.
It’s through steps like these that we are able to adhere to the safety guidelines while still ensuring the necessary services we all rely on are available.
