The Rock and Brews Amplified Weekends Tailgate and Concert Series at First Light Casino concluded last month and proved to be a hit for Tribal Members, Taunton residents, and the greater community who were able to attend.
Amplified Weekends originally started as a 6-week free entertainment series with cover bands performing under the tented event space at the casino every Friday and Saturday, and football streaming each Sunday. Guests brought their chairs, drinks, and snacks for a tailgate-style experience, enjoying live music and football with friends and family. Due to overwhelming community support and record-breaking attendance Amplified Weekends brought to the casino, the Mashpee Wampanoag Gaming Authority decided to extend the series for another three weeks, bringing even more entertainment to Taunton.
Tribal Elders particularly enjoyed the concerts thanks to support from the Gaming Authority. Multiple Elder trips to the casino were planned, with transportation and dinner provided to ensure our Elders could take part in the action as well. "I enjoyed [the concert], hanging out together, and the ride was good. The concert was great. They took good care of us as far as the food and seating," said Clan Mother Anita Peters. The Motown bands were a favorite among many elders when asked about their experience and favorite bands. "It was a great opportunity, and it brightened up my day. And we could talk about it after, so it was something we enjoyed and we could all get together," said Shirley Oakley.
Special thanks to Donald Peters and Joanne Frye, Chairman Weeden, Vice Chairwoman Graham, Gaming Authority Members, and First Light Casino staff for their respective roles in coordinating the Elders trips and ensuring the success of the Amplified Weekends Concerts. The community looks forward to continued entertainment as First Light Casino expands.
