WLRP Langauge Classes & Additional Resources

As summer begins to wind down, the Wôpanâak Language Reclamation Project (WLRP) has news to share about their upcoming activities. The WLRP team has been hard at work preparing a series of language courses designed to deepen your understanding and proficiency in the Wôpanâak language.

This fall WLRP is offering a variety of classes tailored to different levels of learners, from beginners to more advanced speakers. Whether you’re just starting your journey or looking to build on existing skills, there is something for everyone. Classes will not only cover language mechanics but also immerse you in the cultural context that makes our language so unique and vibrant. Please keep an eye on your inbox or the Class and Event Schedule on the WLRP website for detailed information about class schedules and registration. As a reminder, eligibility for classes is for Mashpee, Aquinnah, Assonet and Herring Pond enrolled Tribal citizens and/or members of their household (Tribal or non-Tribal).

Language learners can also visit Kun8seeh.com, a website Developed by Wampanoag linguist Tracy Kelley. Kun8seeh is an online community where you --- a Wôpanâak learner --- can engage with your language whenever you want, from wherever you want. This site seeks to provide new ways to learn and teach our ancestral language. Kun8seeh has had recent updates where there are now word games, a kids corner, and dialogues to practice.

WLRP also wants to remind everyone that the WLRP Board of Directors will be holding elections for all officers (president, vice president, secretary and treasurer) and to fill an open seat for a WLRP board member at-large.  To be eligible for the WLRP Board of Directors and Committee you must have completed a WLRP language class within the past 365 days or be currently enrolled in a class. Also, eligible are WLRP students, teachers, and researchers.  Elections will be held at the next WLRP Board of Directors and Committee meeting, Sunday, September 15.  For more information, please contact the Director chtornbrugh@wlrp.org or info@wlrp.org.
