Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal Citizen, Bryan Tobey Jr., is one of the Top Track and Field and Football athletes to watch. At just 10 years old, Bryan is living up to his tribal name as “the Eagle that flies high”. When Bryan Jr. was only 9 years old, he had already helped his teams make it to 3 super bowls in AYF Football, earning two Championships. Bryan also went on to compete and win in the USATF Junior Olympics last spring. Bryan placed 1st in the 100m sprint and long jump at just 9 years old, at the USATF New England Junior Olympics and the USATF Junior Olympics-New York Region for the 9-10 year old age category. Having just turned 10 years old, Bryan is now competing in the 11–12-year- old category for the USATF youth track and field with his team the CLCF Panthers. His most recent accomplishments include taking 1st place in the 11-year-old category for the long jump and 100m sprint and 2nd place in the 200 m AAU Track & Field District Championship which has earned him an entry to the AAU Track & Field Regional Championship. Bryan also earned the team record for his age category in all of his competing track and field events last season. Bryan is ranked #1 in the Northeast and #5 in the nation for the 11 yr old age group, with an astonishing 16ft 5.5 inches at the long jump. He is ranked #1 in New England of the 100m for 11 yr old category.
Through daily prayer and self-reflection, Bryan attributes his success to his connection with God, his family, and his hard work. Bryan’s love for sports has been evident since he was a toddler, and the depth of his family’s common passion and success in sports is another driving factor. Bryan will be competing with his track team in the USATF Junior Olympics and the USATF Nationals this summer in the 11-12 year old category. As much dedication as Bryan gives to his physical wellbeing, he works just as hard in his academics. Bryan is a stellar student who loves math and likes to read. His most recent standardized test ranked him in the top 92% nationwide for math, meeting a 7th grade math level while just finishing 4th grade. Bryan gets his inspiration from his elders and relatives that have come before him to help pave the way for him to stay on “TRACK”. Bryan’s favorite part about sports, besides the competition, is traveling. His vision is to achieve the highest level of success in track, football, and as a professional once he retires from his anticipated career as an athlete.
