The Tribal Youth Internship Program seeks to increase science literacy and public communication skills, accomplish mission critical work for the park, and stregthen relationships between the park and local tribes.

UMass Boston is hosting a virtual presentation specific for Native and Indigenous students and families interested in hearing about UMass Boston and their growing Native program and community. The presentation will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2024 from 6-7PM.

LINK A Mashpee- and Falmouth-based organization has put together a year-long educational series about Wampanoag history and culture for 2024. Most of the events will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Falmouth and all will be free to attend.

The 10-week, 35 hour/week program begins June 10, 2024 and ends August 16, 2024. Based in the NLC office in the town of Mashpee on Cape Cod, the program will focus on land within the ancestral homelands of the Wampanoag, people of the first light. 

The Native Land Conservancy is holding an Earth Day celebration at the Community and Government Center featuring exhibitors and vendors with a shared mission to protect and preserve the ancestral homelands of the Wampanoag

Last month, our Mashpee Wampanoag Powwow Princess Jenaya Perry and Little Miss Wampanoag Misqua Wahan Strickland hosted a winter social at the Community and Government Center. The event featured singing and dancing with both traditional social songs and songs on the big drum.

The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Veterans Council is still seeking new members. The Veteran’s Council was established to advise Tribal Council on all matters that impact Tribal veterans to better support and increase veteran opportunities.

This years 103rd annual Mashpee Wampanoag Powwow will take place from July 5th, 6th, and 7th on powwow grounds. The Powwow Committee is still looking for volunteers who are interested in helping coordinate this years event. All tribal members who are interested are asked to please send a letter of interest to Tribal Council Secretary Cassie Jackson at cassie.jackson@mwtribe-nsn.gov

Last month, tribal Elder Ramona Peters held a three-day traditional pottery class sponsored by the Native Land Conservancy. The all-women's class had Mashpee and Aquinnah participants, and with Ramona's guidance, each participant created a traditional eastern woodlands-style pot.

Bristol Community College, in partnership with Vineyard Offshore, is pleased to announce a special fund for Wampanoag tribal citizens interested in earning a certificate or associate degree in Offshore Wind to pursue a career in the exciting new field. 

All tribal families are invited to a free movie night on Friday, February 23rd for a screening of the new film Trolls Band Together. The event will take place from 6:00 PM – 8:00PM at the Community and Government Center in the gym. Pajamas are encouraged and youth can bring blankets and pillows.

The tribe has teamed up with the Community Action Committee of Cape Cod and Islands to do a Health Insurance Enrollment at the Community and Government Center once a month. There will be trained navigators to assist tribal members in one-on-one meetings with applying, shopping and enrolling in a health insurance program.

The Mashpee Wampanoag Rod and Gun Club will have a ham and bean dinner from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM on Saturday, February 17th. Plates are $15 each. All are welcome to attend.

A new website has been created for the Education Department and will go live on Monday, February 12th. The site will help better promote education-related events, programs, services, and opportunities to the community. The site was built with parents, students, and teachers in mind and has resources for all to utilize.

GLAM Camp will take place from April 15th to April 19th at the Community and Government Center. GLAM GIRL , the Global Local Athletic Movement, started with the vision of creating equity in sports. By combining sport practice, leadership training and service projects, GLAM GIRL creates more opportunities for young women and girls to play sports

Culture classes are being held at the Community and Government Center every Monday from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM. All tribal members are invited to participate in singing, dancing, and storytelling. For more information, please contact Madas Strickland at sweeteaglecreations@gmail.com

Unfortunately, because we are out of the US for winters I was not able to attend the Elders Meeting regarding the issues /concerns of what is going on at the cemetery. I did express some of my concerns and points that I would have made before you all if I were present to Aaron Tobey at our Christmas Luncheon as I left Cape 12/21.
