The Indian Health Service (IHS) is offering an opportunity for student loan repayment to healthcare workers across a broad range of specialties. They began accepting applications for FY 2024 IHS Loan Repayment Program (LRP) on October 1, 2023. The following specialties are eligible for the IHS LRP:

Allopathic Medicine

Osteopathic Medicine

Nursing

Advanced Practiced Nursing

Dentistry

Behavioral Health

Rehabilitative Services

Podiatry

Optometry

Pharmacy

And More

Those who identity as American Indian and Alaska Native will be given priority for these awards. In exchange for 2 years of full-time service, awardees will be offered up to $50,000 in loan repayment. They will also be offered an extra 24% for taxes which will be paid directly to the Internal Revenue Services (IRS). In FY 2022, a total of 1,093 repayment awards totaling $38 million were given to healthcare professionals across Indian Country.
