Talia Landry, Education Department Grant Manger, successfully submitted a citizens petition to the town of Mashpee that calls for a town vote to transfer ownership to the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of 3 parcels of land, that make up what we know as “12 acres.” This is the same property that the Mashpee Pond water abuts and the Mashpee 9 village project was constructed under the Town of Mashpee CETA Grant program in 1976. The plans for this property include the reconstruction of a pre-contact traditional Wampanoag village site funded through the ARP-AIRE Grant through the Education Department. The citizens petition is now a permanent article on the town’s warrant for Mashpee Town Residents to vote yes or no. If you are a Mashpee Town resident, make sure you are registered to vote. Mark your calendars for the Annual town meeting on October 16th, we will need your vote to get this passed. Spread the Word!
