104th Annual Mashpee Wampanoag Powwow - Connecting the Generations
Photography by Rob Adelman
The 104th Annual Mashpee Wampanoag Powwow was a beautiful celebration of culture, connection, and community. Held on Powwow Grounds, the three-day homecoming featured all of the customary elements of a Mashpee powwow: food, crafts, singing, drumming, and dancing. This year's Head Man Dancer was Asa Peters, and Head Woman Dancer was Anaquhsees Pocknett. Arena Director was Chairman Brian Weeden, Emcee was David Pocknett Jr., and Host Drum was Wicozani.
Each day of the powwow had a program filled with both dance competitions and various specials held by tribal families. Fireball ceremony took place on the second evening of powwow, and the Sly Fox Mishoon race and traditional clambake were both hosted on the third day. This year's clambake was held in honor of our beloved 'Clambake Master' Medicine Woman June "Green Fire Lightning Woman" Tiexeira, who made her journey to the spirit world earlier this year.
In keeping with the tradition of the Mashpee Wampanoag Powwow Princess and Little Miss Wampanoag, two new princesses were crowned on the third and final day of the powwow. Anaquhsees Pocknett was crowned as the 2025-2026 Powwow Princess. Anaquhsees is the daughter of Wendy Pocknett and Mashammoquet Myles. Shaylee Johnson was crowned as this year's Little Miss Wampanoag. Shaylee is the daughter of Beatrice Jackson and Leon Johnson. We also want to thank our outgoing princesses, Ciara Hendricks and Ivy Machado, for serving in the princess capacity for the past year.
Kutâputunumuw to everyone who made this year's event possible: from the drummers and dancers, to the powwow staff & the Powwow Committee, volunteers, vendors, sponsors, family & friends! Our annual homecoming would not have happened without your support, and we look forward to next year's powwow.

Message from the Powwow Committee
On behalf of the Powwow Committee, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for being a part of our homecoming. This annual gathering is one of the most cherished events hosted by the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe—a time when family, friends, and community come together to celebrate and honor The People of the First Light. Our committee has worked diligently to make this event possible, and we are truly grateful for your presence. We hope you enjoyed your time with us and left with memories that will last a lifetime. We hope to see you again next year!
Thank You,
