Oh GREAT Quahog!

So Shiny and bright in your purple and white,

the feel of you beneath my feet is like plucking a star out of the sky, before plucking you, from the mother, I give offerings of corn meal to the water beings and mother Earth.

Giving great thanks for nurturing you like a child, so that my Elders and family may feast upon you, as your flesh nurtures the soul, your beautiful colors within nurtures our spirit as we adorn ourselves with intricate pieces made of you, whether it be a necklace, earrings, bracelets, or gifts, I realize the beautiful gift I have been given.

As I count your rings, like a tree to see how old you are, and as I stare at you the story unfolds, I see it on your shell when you were first born so small of a spat, growing faster than a child. As your salty flesh sooths our bodies crave. And the many ways you are prepared to gift the Elders.

Whether it be Chowder, Quahog cake Quahog pie or just raw with a few pieces of bread while down at the bay shell fishing making a Quahog sandwich,

Snuck as Uncle Clee opens the Quahog on his forehead to make his, yes Uncle Clee we haven’t forgotten the stories of yester years you are apart of our history like the Ancestral foods are to our bodies. Both feeding the soul.
