Tribe to Host Job Fair for Natives Seeking Career Opportunities
In partnership with the U.S. Department of Labor, the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe is hosting a job fair that will bring over two dozen area employers to job-seeking tribe members.
The job fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, inside the gymnasium of the Tribal Community & Government Center.
“We have many well-qualified applicants looking for employment opportunities,” Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal Council Chairman Cedric Cromwell said. “We are extremely grateful for the assistance made available to us by the U.S. Department of Labor and for the variety of employers who responded to our call.”
After months-long process to streamline governmental operations and put tribal programs on more financially secure footing moving forward, a number of jobs within the tribal government were eliminated at the start of the year.
“But we are a tight-knit community that doesn’t just leave those affected to fend for themselves like you see in the corporate world,” Cromwell said.
“Seeing to it that tribal citizens have every available opportunity for self-sufficiency has always been my administration’s primary goal. This job fair will go a long way in helping some of those whose jobs were lost find gainful employment,” Cromwell added.
The employers who will be represented at the job fair span from healthcare and retail to banking and transportation. All tribal citizens looking for employment are being encouraged to attend.
The job fair will include help with putting together resumes thanks to the participation of the Cape’s regional Career Opportunities office. Some employers will even be conducting on-site interview to speed up the hiring the process for the qualified applicants.
